The Mercedes-Benz Cars segment sells passenger cars and off-road vehicles under the Mercedes-Benz; and smart cars under the smart brand names. The Daimler Trucks segment distributes trucks under the Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Western Star, BharatBenz, Thomas Built Buses, and FUSO brand names. The Mercedes-Benz Vans segment primarily sells vans under the Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner brand names. The Daimler Buses segment manufactures and sells completely built-up buses, intercity buses, coaches, and bus chassis under the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brand names. The Daimler Financial Services segment provides financing and leasing packages, insurance, fleet management, investment products, and credit cards for its customers and dealers. Daimler AG was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.

Daimler AG to Pay USD 480 Million to United Auto Workers Union

Daimler AG announced that it is paying USD 480 million to settle a dispute with the United Auto Workers union over medical benefits for retired employees of its North American trucks business. According to documents filed in Tennessee's federal court, the company is contributing to a trust to fund a post-retirement healthcare plan to support active and recently retired UAW-represented employees. The court filing indicates that the contract has been signed after a group of retirees and the union accused Daimler of illegally cutting their benefits.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Reports Sales Results for the Month of July 2014

Mercedes-Benz Cars reported sales results for the month of July 2014. The company reported that sales for the month of July 2014 were 137,511 units, an increase of 10.5%, compared to July 2013.

Daimler Launches Production of New C Class in China

Daimler has started production of the new long-wheel-based (LWB) C class sedan at its plant in Beijing (China). The new LWB Mercedes C class is the China-only version of the C class launched in Bremen (Germany) six months ago. The car, which is 8cm longer than its German counterpart, will begin sales in China in September 2014. The car will also be fitted with locally produced engines from the new BBAC engine plant. Meanwhile, Daimler has announced a cut in spare part prices for over 10,000 parts, averaging a 15% drop, with prices of windscreens dropping by as much as 29%, the statement says, cited by the Wall Street Journal. The new prices will take effect from 1 September 2014.
